The temperature was just
right, the breeze was kept at bay and the sun and clouds waltzed across the sky
making for perfect snow conditions on our last mountain day. Even the Mt Hutt
weather forecast declared it the "day to beat". What an incredible run we
have been fortunate enough to have!
Our very last lessons for the
trip were at 9am and the kids made the most of their instructors, absorbing
last minute tips and tricks to help them on their way. The Mt Hutt instructors have
been fantastic, guiding and supporting the students in their skills and their confidence; one even telling Mr Ward what an amazing bunch of kids the TGS students are…
and we whole-heartedly agree. After a picture and a collective ‘thank you’, the
instructors left us to our own devices and the kids kept at the hill for the
entire day, barely stopping to draw breath or take a drink.
As the day drew to a
close, it was time for the annual TGS Summer Run, a long standing tradition
where we bring our north Queensland attire to the New Zealand slops. The kids
donned their summer clothes, ski boots, gloves and goggles and headed into the
snow to take part in the event. They didn't get far before they were ambushed
with snowballs slung by Bobo and Emily at the base of the chair lift which made
for a chilly ride up the hill to the blue run 'Broadway'. Together, the team of
TGS skiers and boarders made their way down, having such a good time that they
went for round two, three and even four! When they were thoroughly frozen and
had squeezed every last minute of fun out of the glorious mountain, they
returned their gear to rentals and headed to the bus, already planning their
next snow adventures.
Tonight was trivia
night, where the kids were quizzed on all things Kiwi. The 2019 costume theme
was the letter 'S', with Stephen's Shrek taking the prize for best costume.
Shout out also goes to the many excellent costumes including: Snow White, a
scientist, a soldier, Spiderman, a shark, some spies, Supergirl, a sailor, and
soldier boy himself. They battled it out in a five-round trivia competition
that saw 'Jabba the Hutt' take out first prize after their winning performance
of 'How Bizarre' by New Zealand band OMC, which saw them shoot to the top the
leader board. A fun night was had by all with many showcasing their New Zealand
knowledge and entertaining us with their stellar performances of Kiwi music
hits.
Home to bed to get some
rest before our next 'down day'. Tomorrow they will be swinging through the
trees with the greatest of ease.
