At 4:30 this morning, 21 bleary eyed teenagers stumbled into
the airport, hoodies in hand and ready to embark on an excellent adventure.
After our traditional departure snap, we checked in, headed through security
and onto our Townsville to Brissy flight… from there, we started to encounter
some travelling challenges.
A delay on the tarmac in Townsville meant a delay getting
into Brisbane and in our haste to get across to the international; an unfortunate
incident with a passport and a spilled water bottle meant that one of our
travellers wasn’t able to clear immigration as her passport was deemed damaged
goods and confiscated. Our poor Phoebe had to stay in Brisbane while we took
off, but thanks to some super-mum powers combined with some super-travel agent
powers, Phoebe is enroute and will be arriving about 2am to re-join us and we’re
so excited to be seeing her so soon!
We stepped out of the Christchurch International airport
into some brisk Kiwi weather and boarded the bus heading to Methven and our
beloved ‘Ski Time Lodge’. A quick settle in and a delicious dinner and the kids
spent the evening getting fitted out with jackets, pants and helmets in
preparation for tomorrow’s first day on the slopes. A definite buzz of
excitement filled the air as they headed out to get acquainted with the town,
the lodge, the pool table, the ping pong table and what looks like the
beginnings of a very serious game of scrabble.
All weather reports indicate that tomorrow will be an
absolute pearler atop Mount Hutt . . . absolutely mint day ahead (check out their
facebook page to see where we’ll be) and the kids are super eager to hit the
hill bright and early in the morning.
Shout out to:
Phoebe: the H2O Queen who fortunately has a
British passport to get her here.
Lachlan: for leaving the key to his suitcase lock on the
kitchen counter and having to saw open his bag.
Ryan: for losing his wallet in the immigration line and to
Felix for forgetting that he actually had it. for losing track of the time and arriving 45mins
late, despite being up at 3:30am
Cameron: for his absolute joy at seeing snow for the first
time as we flew over the New Zealand mountain ranges.
